Lifts and ramps in both buildings

The museum is split between the historic Sabatini building and the Jean Nouvel extension. Both have lifts and ramps connecting the different floors, so you can tour the permanent collection —including the second floor of the Sabatini building, home to Guernica— without stairs. The routes are signposted, and museum staff can point you to the most comfortable accessible route.

Loan wheelchairs

The Reina Sofía lends wheelchairs free of charge, available at the cloakroom. If you are going to need one, request it on arrival: the number of units is limited and they are assigned on a first-come basis, so we recommend arriving with some margin, especially on busy days.

Access with a baby pram

You can enter the museum with a pram. The lifts and ramps make it easy to move between floors, just as with a wheelchair. If you are visiting the museum as a family, you may find our Reina Sofía with kids guide useful.

Free admission for disability

People with a disability of 33% or more enter the Reina Sofía Museum free, and their companion also enters at no cost. To qualify for this free entry you must present the document certifying the disability together with your ID card or passport, which is checked at the box office. See all the profiles with free entry in our Reina Sofía discounts guide.
